(Full instructions at our host Vikki’s post here!)
This week, I reached 65K on my book but I’m still not at the end. I was stressing hard on the fact that I had wanted a perfect and polished manuscript to bring with my to the Midwest Writers Workshop that I will be attending at the end of July, but that goal seems pretty far-fetched at this point. I’m just hoping to have a completed first draft by then! However, I think about how far I’ve come in my writing journey and this is the closest I’ve ever been to completing a first novel. THE CLOSEST. Since really strapping down in 2012 and putting forth loads of hours into writing, I have a few WIP that range in the 20-50K word range of which I started and then abandoned either because I didn’t feel ready yet to tell the story or because the story wasn’t going somewhere good and I didn’t know exactly how to fix it. Now I am at 65K words on Keep Your Eyes on Me and I still believe in the story and I still am working to finish it. I think that is something really worth celebrating because the journey is half of the purpose of being a writer.
I will leave you with something I posted on my Twitter that got a lot of favorites and re-tweets:
It’s hard to believe that I will EVER finish this manuscript…but it’s even harder to imagine NEVER finishing it.
As for non-writing related things, my sister, Laura, is home from college for the summer and I’ve been exchanging books with her. It is really nice to have someone close by now to call me up and gush about the book I told her to read that she finished at 3 AM in the morning because she couldn’t put it down. It’s those little things that make my day π
What did you celebrate this week? Let me know in the comments or join the hop and I will find out on your blog!

The most I’ve written on one novel was 50000 words. I wrote it for last year’s August Camp NaNo and it’s all terrible. I’m planning on rewriting it this year, though π
Congratulations on getting so far π
Congratulations on all those words. That’s no SMALL thing! π
65k is fantastic! And I love that tweet. I feel the same way about my WIPs.
That’s a lot of words! You are so nearly there. And yay to having your sister there π
65k is quite an achievement!! Good for you! Enjoy your weekend and your time with your sister. π
Yay 65k! You’re almost there!! π
Excellent tweet! So glad you’re making progress–you’ll be done before you know it! π
A great post. So wonderful that you’re reaching your goal on completing your first novel. It’s hard, seems impossible, for me to work on more than one project at a time. It’s the same with reading. It surprises me when people say they’re reading several books at a time! I’ve always been a one-book-at-a-time type of person. It would be so cool to be able to work on my other started WIPes, but, I’ve got to take them one at at time. π
Persevere in your writing. It sounds like you’re almost at the finish line, good luck. And sisters are the best, I have one of my own.
That’s brilliant. I need to get my finger out and add some more words to my manuscript.
Your tweet is awesome. Congrats on reaching 65K
